Graphite on Multi-Media Paper
My most prized drawing, A Touch of History came from a period of rebellion and desire for challenges. I was given the assignment to do a quick study of any body part of my choosing, but “quick” wasn’t (and still isn’t) my style choice. I observe too many details to just be quick.
Thus, I spent a solid 10+ hours crafting this piece, a reflection of my own hands. I searched through every crease, vein, and hair follicle, taking in the history of my skin.

Chromatic Grayscale, Oil Paint on Canvas
My experience with paint at this point in time had been slim, so I only knew how to approach it as I would any drawing — with detail. Shades, tones, values, reflections, textures — it’s all much more difficult to capture with a brush, but all the more rewarding when you do. The most exciting part? The discovery of a painter’s ability to make shades of gray from colors — hence the term chromatic grayscale.

Graphite on Drawing Paper
“Raise your hand if you hate self portraits.” That’s how my freshman year professor started the class.
I keep this drawing as a reminder of that day and the experience of looking deeply upon the self —studying my appearance and imperfections and having the power within the pencil to either portray them as they are, or correct them to my liking.
Also how cool is it to just have a floating head?!
