Given the task of creating a fake Rock’N’Roll band, the musical group “Insert Something Deep” was born.
Keeping this print to a maximum of three layers, I used Procreate to mesh together negative and positive space to have each color represent a tone/shade within the hands and face, as well as outline or fill in some of the text.
The Challenge: finding a title for the band. Creating the movement element within the subject of the poster felt incredibly meaningful to me, but I struggled to find a title that suited the emotion I received from this depiction. In the end, mainly due to time restrictions and an approaching deadline, I settled on “Insert Something Deep” — a call to action that encourages the audience to insert a deep title/name/emotion that went along with the imagery.
Unfortunately, this was one of those moments where the artist realizes that the piece that they spent hours on actually portrays a somewhat… inappropriate context in the eyes of certain viewers. All I can say is that art is subjective.
